‘Ideaal’ ‘Bericht aan’ ‘Lampje’
Installation
The installation consists of three works; ‘Ideaal’, a design of ceramic letters of which one ‘a’ has fallen down. The work ‘lampje’ which is a product that looks like a little lamp, with an inviting button in front of it. And a self-portrait titled ‘Bericht aan’.
All three works revolve around the statement ‘failure is an opinion’.
In the surroundings of an art academy, the pressure to perform well is inevitable, but it can actually be found in many corners of modern-day society. Sadly this is often the cause of phenomena like burn-outs and anxiety.
This installation invites the viewer to embrace the view that failure is not one fixed outcome you should avoid at any cost. Failure is a matter of perspective.
Although the word ideaal did not work out as it should have, another look reveals that it now does actually say ‘ideal’.
Altogether the work is an attempt to lower the pressure to perform in a light, amusing manner.
